Samsung Good Lock gave my Galaxy a feature I thought I needed a new phone for

I wanted to find a way to make my Samsung Galaxy better at multitasking. It’s already great at running apps in split-screen, or even pop-up view, and despite my Galaxy S22 Plus being four years old, it can still keep up even under the most demanding multitask scenarios.

I’ve used many foldables, and I am considering getting another, but since discovering a Samsung Good Lock module that enhances multitasking, I think I might hold off. This module lets me bump up the density of split-screen to see more information at once while offering a more precise way to resize each window, plus I found a setting to make turning any app into a pop-up window faster and easier.

Here’s how you can set this up on your Samsung Galaxy too.

Get MultiStar in Good Lock

Advanced split-screen multitasking tools make it feel more like a foldable

We’ve written extensively about how Samsung’s Good Lock gives your Galaxy a range of additional features and capabilities and is a free must-have for anyone with a Samsung Galaxy. You probably already have it installed, and if not, you can download it below.

Then, in order to add the tools we’ll talk about in this article, you’ll need to download and install the MultiStar module, which you can find easily by searching Good Lock. Once that’s done, we can proceed.

Turn on Multi-Window Screen zoom

Makes split-screen much more useful

Split-screen multitasking has been available on Samsung Galaxy phones for a very long time, but the one issue with it is that the information density is low, often requiring a lot of swiping to see more content, especially if you have one of the smaller Galaxy models and not a Plus or Ultra. There’s an unassuming setting in MultiStar that will boost the display density when using split-screen, instantly making it more useful. For example, with this feature turned on, I was able to see five files at a time in Google Drive versus three with it off, offering about a 66% improvement. This also holds true when using split-screen with messaging and music apps, or anything that provides a list of information.

To turn this on, open MultiStar > scroll down to Multi-Window Screen zoom and turn it on. Then you can choose whether to apply it to either split-screen view, pop-up view, or both. I left both checked, but I mostly noticed the difference in split-screen. This increased density reminds me of the additional screen real estate you get when running a foldable.

Toggle the swipe-gesture to turn any window into a floating window

Just swipe in from the corner to make it float

Samsung devices can turn any app into a pop-up window, ideal for hovering a calculator on top of a Google Sheet or placing a Chrome window on top of an email you’re writing for reference. The problem with the pop-up window feature is that it takes several steps to trigger. But in MultiStar, you can enable an easy gesture that lets you turn any app — and I’ve tested many — into a smaller resizable and movable floating window very easily by just swiping diagonally from the upper right corner.

To enable this, just open MultiStar > Set popup gesture size > Turn On (you can configure the sensitivity of the gesture, but I left it as the default).

Remove blur effect on adjusting split-view

Adjust split-screen without the laggy animation

This is a relatively minor thing to change, but if you use split-screen view a lot, it’s a nice quality of life improvement.

By default, when you drag the divider line between two apps in split-screen, your Samsung Galaxy will use an annoying blur effect during the resizing action to give the device time to re-render both apps clearly. But phone hardware has gotten so good that you don’t need this blur effect anymore, because the device can do it in real time.

To turn off this blur effect, open MultiStar > scroll to Remove blur effect on adjusting split view and turn on. Again, this isn’t a huge change, but it makes the device feel more dynamic and powerful when you are fine-tuning your split-screen multitasking, and it reminds me of the precision you get when running multiple apps on a foldable.

You don’t need a foldable for more advanced multitasking

MultiStar gets you part of the way there

You can’t get the incredible multitasking experience that a foldable affords when using a slab phone (and we are loving this new crop of passport-sized foldables). But if you have a larger Samsung Galaxy, like a Plus or Ultra, it’s pretty nice to add these enhanced multitasking features from this Good Lock module.
