Four new Pixel Watch features help you spot health changes before they become serious

Google is enhancing its health offerings with a major update to its Pixel Watch range, adding four new wellness features designed to turn your wearable into a constant health guardian. This new set of features is designed to help users detect silent changes in their health before they turn into serious issues, all without the need for needles, cuffs, or any additional devices.

Less need for needles or laboratory tests

No one enjoys having their finger pricked or going to the lab for a blood test. Google’s new Insulin Resistance Trends tool is designed to warn you early about changes in how your body manages blood sugar—without requiring a single drop of blood. By analysing weeks’ worth of physiological data from your Pixel Watch, the feature estimates your insulin resistance and displays trend reports directly on your wrist. Its goal is to identify early shifts in your metabolic health so you can consult your doctor if anything seems amiss, all without test tubes.

Tracking without the cuff

Standard blood pressure cuffs are often uncomfortable and need regular calibration. Google’s new Blood Pressure Trends feature gets rid of the cuff altogether and instead quietly examines your pulse and movement patterns over the course of the month in order to identify significant changes in your blood pressure over time. The aim isn’t to give you immediate readings (so there’s no need to get rid of your home monitor just yet), but to detect long-term trends that could indicate underlying cardiovascular risks—helping you take a proactive approach to your heart health.

This is great for me — I have high blood pressure I usually go and have quarterly checkups at the hospital. While I’ll still go for other health concerns, this lets me keep an eye on things in the meantime.

Sleep breathing quality

How well are you really sleeping?

Google has introduced a Sleep Breathing Quality feature that monitors the proportion of your sleep that occurs under healthy breathing conditions. The monthly reports help you spot patterns—for example, whether snoring, allergies, or other causes affect the quality of your rest. This is a simple way to link those foggy mornings to what is actually happening while you sleep.

Emergency breathing detection

For when every second counts

Emergency Breathing Detection, which is being made available initially in certain European countries for the Pixel Watch 4 and 5, is a feature intended to help save lives. Should the watch detect an event involving dangerously low blood oxygen levels—for example, due to a serious illness, choking, or an overdose—it will automatically get in touch with emergency services if you do not react. This represents a significant move in the area of wearable safety and gives users with existing health problems or anyone who is looking for an additional level of protection a sense of security.

Google says these features will be available on Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5 (and on the Fitbit Air for some features), with staggered rollout timing — several metrics were listed as coming in September 2026 and Emergency Breathing Detection initially in select EU countries. These Pixel Watch features are intended to help users detect possible changes earlier; they are not clinical diagnostic tools and Google advises consulting a clinician for abnormal trends.
