My home Wi-Fi had dead zones, a congested channel, and a router in the wrong spot. The kicker is that my Galaxy phone found all three problems, and that’s without using any third-party apps.
All I had to do was unlock One UI’s Connectivity Labs menu, and it handed me almost every tool I needed to fix my home Wi-Fi. I’m honestly a bit surprised Samsung keeps this hidden because more people need to know about this.
More people need to know about it
Samsung phones are full of hidden features scattered across One UI. All of them are a bit niche, but Connectivity Labs is worth knowing about. It unlocks useful Wi-Fi settings and features you won’t find anywhere else.
To get there, though, you’ll first need to unlock the menu by heading to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi, tapping the three-dot icon and choosing Intelligent Wi-Fi. Then, tap the Intelligent Wi-Fi option multiple times, and it’ll unlock Connectivity Labs. If you’ve ever enabled Developer Options on Android, this works the same way.
It shows detailed Wi-Fi stats and a few options for customizing the Wi-Fi menu. Beyond these, it can also show information about nearby networks and map signal strength across your house. Those two surprised me the most, so I had to try them to see how useful they were.
Finding the best Wi-Fi channel took seconds
Channel congestion was killing my speeds
If you’ve ever noticed your Wi-Fi slowing down in the evenings, Wi-Fi channels are likely the culprit. Every router broadcasts on a channel within its frequency band, and when too many networks in your neighborhood pile onto the same one, they interfere with each other, and your speeds drop. Most routers default to Auto channel selection, which sounds smart, but the catch is that they only scan for the least congested channel once at boot. After that, your router simply sticks to that channel. You can see how this could become a problem as new networks come online, and the interference builds up.
The obvious fix is to manually choose a channel that’s not congested. Normally, this requires downloading a Wi-Fi analyzer app, scanning your environment, and cross-referencing channel congestion. Samsung’s Connectivity Labs menu takes most of that work out of the equation.
Inside Connectivity Labs, head to Wi-Fi developer options > Nearby Wi-Fi information > Channel utilization. Here, it’ll show you how busy each Wi-Fi channel is in your area. At the bottom, it even tells you which channel is the best option for your setup, so there’s no guesswork involved. All that’s really left to do is open your router’s settings and switch to the suggested channel.

A few feet made all the difference
Router placement is one of those things that’s obvious, but still easy to overlook. You place it wherever it’s convenient and never think about it. But the thing is, walls, furniture, appliances, and even the layout of your rooms all affect how Wi-Fi signals travel. Of course, the usual advice is to put your router somewhere central and elevated, but it’s not that simple. Every home layout is different, so even if you follow the advice perfectly, you can still end up with dead zones.
Connectivity Labs has a feature called Home Wi-Fi inspection that helps with exactly this. You simply have to select your network and walk around your house with your Galaxy phone. As you move, it measures the signal strength in real time and plots it on a graph. This essentially makes it easy to find those dead zones, where the signal is either too weak or non-existent.
And once you know where those zones are, finding a sweet spot for the router becomes a whole lot easier. It’s far better than glancing at the Wi-Fi bars on your phone or laptop. In my case, I only had to move the router by a few feet, and the signal strength improved across all my devices.
Connectivity Labs can do a lot more
Beyond fixing my home Wi-Fi, Connectivity Labs also has a few options that helped make everyday connectivity a little better. Its Auto reconnect to carrier Wi-Fi can automatically connect your phone to your carrier’s public Wi-Fi hotspots. So if your carrier operates them in your city, you can save some mobile data with this one.
There’s also the Show network quality info option that forces your Galaxy phone to show signal quality details right on the Wi-Fi list. It categorizes nearby networks as Best, Good, Bad, and Worse. It’s a simple metric, but it can help you pick the best network every time.
Switch to mobile data faster is another setting I enabled. Anytime my Galaxy phone loses Wi-Fi, it switches to mobile data more quickly than usual. Of course, this isn’t something I’d recommend if you’re on a limited data plan.
