Taming a large yard is tricky. You can pay a lot of money for a lot of property and then find that you have no time to actually maintain it. That’s when you might have to make some concessions and only get to some parts of the yard every once in a while or even hire someone to maintain the lawn for you.
For anyone that doesn’t want to rely on paying someone else to cut their grass, pull their weeds, and edge their sidewalks, there are plenty of power tools that can help. Unfortunately, finding the time to actually do so is the trickiest thing, especially if you want your yard to look as good as it can. I am currently facing this dilemma, as I have small kids and I’m trying to juggle maintaining the yard with limited free time. I need efficient tools that can run for a long time. That’s why Greenworks has become my go-to outdoor power tool manufacturer.
I started with a string trimmer
The Greenworks 80V string trimmer has been great
I was gifted a Greenworks 80V Cordless 16″ Brushless String Trimmer for Father’s Day the first year after we’d purchased our house which has just over an acre of property. There are parts of my property line that are trees and wooded and we don’t bother pulling weeds or trimming down. But the areas around the house and by the end of the driveway by the road need constant attention.
I’ve been delinquent in keeping up with it, but I want to get better. I’ve started breaking out the string trimmer more often, trying to keep some of the areas in both my front and back yards cleaner. The Greenworks 80V string trimmer is built to last, whether you’re using it in the spring or fall. It tackles tough trimming around bushes, fences, and more.
What I love about it is it has multiple speeds that it can ramp up to, thanks to its simple trigger system. It can ramp up to cut through tough weeds and brush. The brushless motor is incredibly quiet, so much so that there are days I don’t even use ear protection.
You should still wear ear protection for longer periods of use.
I’ve used string trimmers before that get tangled when the spool is rewinding and it’s a nightmare to sort out. That has never happened with this trimmer, as the Load N’ Go head rewinds in seconds. I’ve accidentally gotten it caught on some branches of a bush before and it doesn’t get out of whack.

If you decide to buy a Greenworks outdoor power tool, you’re likely going to be choosing a cordless one, as cordless outdoor power tools can be utterly useless. With that, you’ll be able to utilize the Greenworks battery system that is able to transfer power to 75 different tools.
You can choose different voltages, such as 40V, 64V, and 80V. I have two 80V tools: the string trimmer and the Greenworks 80V 800CFM Cordless Blower. The 80V battery can power these tools for up to 60 minutes at a time, giving me plenty of minutes to clear either weeds, brush, or leaves off my property.
Is it likely I’m going to be using these for an hour straight? Probably not. Is it nice to have that option? Absolutely. It means that I can get the most out of the time that I have during the week / month to clear out my yard.
These batteries come with the devices that they power. I got a charger with the gift of the string trimmer and I purchased a leaf blower with a battery charger, giving me two batteries and two chargers. It’s rare that I’m charging both at the same time, but I can do that if two people wanted to use them at the same time. I also have had no issue swapping one battery from one to the other, as these lithium-ion batteries have easily removable batteries.

My house has massive trees in the backyard that shed leaves in the fall. I’ve had an issue raking my leaves for years and it has been annoying to corral large piles of them to drag them to the street to dispose of them.
I have a push blower that is an industrial one, but only works in certain patterns, as in it only blows one way. The cordless leaf blower gives me so much more flexibility. It allows me to quickly throw in a battery and clear off my lawn, porch, deck, and more.
As the fall is approaching, I’m trying to stay on top of the leaf situation. I’ve had it back up in the past and it’s been an uphill battle.
